Time-tested over decades of use by the hardy Russians to withstand their harsh winters. Made in Russia from the highest quality locally manufactured materials only! Great and useful gift for Christmas!
This striking poster was created in 1923 by the Stenberg brothers, Georgii and Vladimir, together with Konstantin Medunetsky, leading figures of the Russian Constructivist movement. It was designed to promote the performances of the Moscow Kamerny Theatre (Chamber Theatre) under the artistic direction of Alexandre Tairoff during its tour at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. The bold geometric shapes, strong contrasts of yellow, blue, black, and red, and the use of dynamic typography reflect the Constructivist style. At the center, the face of a theatrical character is framed by a large circular motif, while above, a stylized figure with outstretched arms adds dramatic energy. The text highlights the repertoire of plays performed, including Phèdre, Adrienne Lecouvreur, Salomée, Princesse Brambilla, and Ciroflée Girofla. This poster is considered a landmark example of early Soviet avant-garde theater design.
