HELP 1922
- Description:
Artist: Dmitry Moor
In several regions of the Soviet Russia, devastated by war, repression, and drought, a true famine began. Calls to fight it are also vividly reflected in posters from the early 1920s. An example of a brilliant solution to this theme is Dmitry Moor's poster "Help!". On a black background, an emaciated old peasant is shown standing with his gnarled arms raised. He is crying out, begging for help. Besides the figure of the peasant, the only other detail on the poster is a single, dried-up, charred ear of wheat burned by the drought. The ear of wheat and the man—both are scorched, both are dying. The poster is perceived as a cry for help, a desperate shout.
